"Shortly after our 130BPM adventure with Big Hands we land firmly back in 140BPM territory. Moosiqunt, born and raised in Vienna, Austria, is a top contender for the deepest, darkest Dubstep producer that has graced planet earth. His early influences draw all the way from Metal to the 09/10 Dubstep era. Nowadays he is mostly influenced by experimental electronic music such as Lorn, Amon Tobin or dark ambient sounds.

The EP starts off with the title track ‘Refugium’, the track that is closest to Moosiqunt, with the main sample being recorded by the man himself whilst round a friend’s house. This is a perfect opener for the EP, it sets the standard for the Kick & Bass levels and shows you how Moosiqunt manipulates all the sounds he uses to drop you headfirst into a dark and unforgiving setting.

‘Untitled’ reflects the same setting with mechanical one shots and static sounds, convincing you there is no-one to save you here. The next two collaboration tracks featuring Sedan & Scetta respectively, and flow more like traditional Dubstep tracks...dipped in extra Bass. ‘Coarse’ features one of the biggest basslines on the release, oven-ready for Sound System measures. ‘Dryer’ features more of the same albeit with glitchier percussion and Snare delays tastier than a fresh beer after work on Friday.

Remix artists Woven Thorns and Stizzla & Eater deliver their own twist on the track ‘Untitled’. Woven Thorns version is a delight to the ears, introducing a Kick far more dynamic than the original. She replaces some of the moodier elements with syncopated hi-hats and pitched down vocals. Stizzla & Eater take note of the original vibe of ‘Untitled’ and times it three-fold. They go one step further with the moodiness of the track and add their own industrial twist with extra distorted sounds and samples.

Refugium was another EP a long time in the making and this is not the last you will hear of Moosiqunt. Refugium is out 30/10/20 on Junodownload & Spotify with a general release two weeks later. "
